During its first phase on January 10 and 11, Genesis 2009 witnessed a series of workshops and lecture sessions. The event was organised by C-TIDES, the entrepreneurship cell of IIT Madras in collaboration with IFMR Trust Fund.
The participants came up with elaborate details on each aspect of starting a social venture-right from conceptualising the idea, writing an executive summary, structuring the organisation, market analysis, financial projections, legal issues and exit options.
In his address, Sam Mehta, director of Atlas Advisory, spoke on the importance of a business plan to convince venture capitalists and angel investors, and to later grow as an organisation. Similarly, thoughtful insights were shared by Rajesh Sukumaran of Mercatus Capital; Srejith N, MD of ROPE; Puneet Gupta, president of IFMR; Satish Madhira, founder of YASU Technologies; K L Narain, founder of 360 Degree Interactive; and Kiruba Shankar of Business Blogging, among others.
