![]() Barcamp Punjab proved to be a common platform for students, entrepreneurs, start-ups, venture capitalists, technology experts and experienced professionals. In an endeavour to encourage leaders and entrepreneurs, Lovely Professional University (LPU) organised the first BarCamp Punjab on March 8, 2009 at its campus at Phagwara. The event hosted speakers from various parts of the country, and allowed them to share their expertise and insights on diverse topics. The BarCamp proved to be a common platform for students interested in entrepreneurship, for start-ups, venture capitalists, technology experts and other professionals. The platform served as a place to exchange thoughts and ideas and thus helped to encourage new talent and the growth of the entrepreneurial community. Everyone shared their experiences, both live, and after the event, via the Web and other channels. Since this was the first time such an event has been kicked off in the state, it has been christened BarCamp Punjab Edition One. The event also marked the launch of the Nirmaan Center of Excellence for Entrepreneurship Development by Dr Vijay Gupta, vice chancellor, LPU. Dr Gupta then shared his views on entrepreneurship. He particularly stressed on the need to encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship in Punjab. There were also intense and thought-provoking sessions and demos initiated by Vijay Chadha, founder, GVC Systems; Gnanaraj Sadacharam, senior alliances manager, Rang De.Org; Sarabjeet, founder, Fachak.com; and Rashmi, founder, Flyingminds.com. Barcamp Punjab is the place to find people with similar interests and build teams. It not only gave participants an opportunity to find talent but also to explore the various options available to them in the ever-evolving business world. This ad-hoc gathering was born out of the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It turned out to be an intense event, with discussions, demos and interaction between attendees.
