I remember that day in the early 90s, when I had a dream of establishing an Indian brand in IT hardware. In those days the field was dominated by many MNC brands. A humble Ethernet card was my first choice to launch the Intex brand and this happened in 1996. One dream after another came true in the years gone by!
Intex grew to a 32 crore company in the first six years and then to a very satisfying 333 crore turnover in the next six years, ending March 2008. This year, I expect we will touch 500 crores, achieved through six business verticals and about 26 product groups.
My dream now covers different facets of organisation development. I think of the day when Intex will run without any paper usage. When we will be a company driven by IT systems, where people will spend time on strategic planning and decision making, rather than in routine work. IT infrastructure will support anytime, anywhere working. People will continue to work in a happy and relaxed environment and contribute passionately to drive the company. As a first step to realising this dream, we have switched over from our own ERP (enterprise resource planning) to SAP and also established our own VPN (virtual private network) to bring online all our warehouses, branches and service centres, across the country.
